World Hepatitis Day Outreach Activity

July 28, 2022 – Dundas Square, Toronto
July 28th 2022 was the designated World Hepatitis Day across the globe bringing the world together to raise awareness of the burden of viral hepatitis and to influence change. The Chinese Hepatitis B Peer Support Group has joined many other community organizations and participated in an outreach event held at the Dundas Square in Toronto. The aim of the event is to promote hepatitis B awareness to the public and hence to prevent serious health outcomes such as liver cancer. We were the only group at the event sharing information on hepatitis B, whereas the majority of groups there were promoting hepatitis C and offering hepatitis C testing.
The PSG Committee members Andrew, Christine, Henry, and I were at the event manning the display booth. We had more than 30 visitors who stopped by and chatted with us. We got a few visitors interested in joining our upcoming educational seminars. We met a family doctor from Manitoba vacationing in Toronto, who stopped by our booth and picked up some useful information for her patients. Our PSG giveaway souvenir tote bags and fridge magnets were a hit at the event. All in all, it was a successful outreach despite the severe thunderstorm at the beginning of the day.
